We are really excited about a huge event that is on the horizon. President Obama has declared September 11th as a National Day of Service, and is encouraging all Americans to set aside a day to reach out and serve their communities. He wants to use serving as a positive way to commemorate a tragic day in our Nation’s history, and we are getting fired up and ready to do our part! Imagine Servolution spreading throughout our whole nation as Americans set aside their own interests to take care of others!
We at HPC will be participating with events within our community and encourage everyone to do the same. Check out more information HERE and contact your local city officials to see how your church can help take a stand to Serve!
There are so many churches in our nation and around the world that carry the heartbeat of Servolution. They are continually reaching out and searching for new ways to affect their communities. We are so honored when some of these churches choose to send a short-term missions team down to our HPC Dream Centers to spend some time rolling up their sleeves and serving our community.
The short-term teams are housed on-site at our Baton Rouge Dream Center and get an opportunity to experience how our Servolution is run 24/7. They spend time painting, scrubbing, handing out water, cooking and serving breakfast to the homeless & serving at our Donaldsonville Dream Center as well.
They come to help us in reaching this community, are given tools to help begin a Servolution back home, and add so much fuel to our team with a fresh excitement and perspective. There is something so healthy and refreshing about people from different churches and places coming together to reach a need and build the kingdom.
Some of the awesome churches that have sent teams have been:
Rock Church from Wilmington, North Carolina, led by Bryan McGee
Family Church from West Monroe, LA, led by Michael O’Neal
The Rock Church of Wilmington, North Carolina has sent down a team the past two-years. They have been so much fun to host and added so much to our Servolution. Check out this recap video the most recent team just put together:

July 4th is one of the greatest holidays here in the good old USA. It’s chance to step back and reflect on what a great nation we live in and appreciate our amazing independence! [Plus, it's a chance to get together with those we love, chow down on BBQ, and wear everything red, white and blue!]
Here in Baton Rouge it is a hugely popular tradition to go to the levee of the Mississippi River and watch a huge fireworks display over the river put on by the city. Thousands of families come out to celebrate together, eat some great food & have a good time. It is also true that it is hot down here. Hot in a serious way in the south in July. So our thought was- lots of people, lots of heat…. there should be water! Thats why rolled out the big blue barrells, rolled them up the levee and handed out 1,000 bottles of water to thirsty people, just as a little way to let them know about the love of God celebrate together the freedom we daily enjoy.
Was your church a part of reaching out to your community on the fourth of July? Please take a moment to share it with us by leaving a comment!
