Brookstown// Part 2

Sometimes when you go on an outreach you have a great experience where you may feel like you’ve really impacted lives and reached some people for God. You may have been able to encourage somebody, have a deep conversation, or just watch somebody open up to God. Then there are days where it’s all in reverse, and God uses people to reveal himself to you. Through serving and helping HIS people, God will encourage and grow you, showing you more of who He is. That is the kind of outreach that we have been doing in Brookstown.

Day two of our two-day Servolution as a part of the National Day or Service got rained out, and although it held us back we didn’t let the rain stop us. We have made a commitment to serve one of the poorest and most run-down neighborhoods in our city. This past Saturday we headed to Brookstown to get more work done in the neighborhood, and our team along with city workers and Oasis Church were able to completely repaint FOUR HOUSES in just a few hours!

It may have only been the outside of a few homes, and may not appear to make much of a difference in a neighborhood where the situation is overwhelming, but it is the physical sign of something bigger God is doing in our city. Each family and life touched through a simple act is more of a reassurance of God’s love to us then it may have been to them.

Servolution Day 1

What an incredible day in Baton Rouge! Despite some rain, our mayor & government officials, city police, New Orleans Hornets and a TON of excited red-shirt-wearing volunteers from HPC and Oasis Christian Church showed up in the Baton Rouge neighborhood of Brookstown. We cleaned streets, cleared debris, mowed lawns and removed trash. Best of all we showed the people who live in the Brookstown area that God cares for them. What a great opportunity to partner together and reach more people for the cause of Jesus by serving the people that he loves and cares for.

Check out some of the videos and pictures JP Brumfield and the team were able to capture this morning. And don’t forget, tomorrow Saturday, Sept 12 you’re invited for Day 2 of Servolution!

Servolution is today!

We are excited to announce that together with the Mayor’s Office, the Capital Area United Way and local churches around Baton Rouge our outreach project for the National Day of Service in Baton Rouge is Brookstown Area renovation. The Brookstown Area is roughly bounded on the north and south by Hollywood Street and Prescott Road and on the west and east by North Foster Drive and Airline Highway. This area has seen increase in criminal activity and the city has made major efforts to turn that trouble community around.

This September 11 & 12, come out and volunteer as we join forces and show Jesus’ love to this community through clean-up, renovation, giveaways and much more!
