Healing Hands

Healing Hands

Healing Hands’ mission is restoration of mind, body and soul one person at a time. We have seen this happen through relationships between hurting people and volunteers – who feel called and gifted for such a purpose. The scripture that we feel is the cornerstone of this ministry is 1 John 3:18 – “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”

We see in Jesus’ life that He traveled to where the people were, preached the Good News and helped them with “practical love” such as food or healing them of various illnesses. Our vision is to meet people where they are and provide them with needed health care and education. We also offer them one-on-one guidance with a mature Christian to either help them begin their walk with Christ, or to enrich what they already have.

We travel to areas of need by means of two incredible mobile clinics: one medical and one dental. Both provided by God to help us fulfill the calling on this ministry. They are staffed completely by volunteers from Healing Place Church and other local churches.

We serve people for free with no health insurance of any kind and who are at or below the 200% poverty level. The areas we currently serve are St. Francisville, Donaldsonville, and Gonzales/St. Amant. Each clinic is visited once a month on a Saturday morning. Services are teeth extraction in dental and chronic disease management such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol in medical. We provide medications and education on proper lifestyle choices.

Volunteer Needs

// Medical
1. Doctors, dentists, NP, PA, dental hygienists, physical/occupational therapists, chiropractors
2. Nurses, dental assistants, EMT’s, etc.
3. Diabetic educators, dieticians

// Non-medical (represent the majority of our needs)
1. Registration – check in patients and make follow-up appointments, help with paperwork
2. Greeter – just loves on people as they wait for their appointment
3. Patient flow – escorts patients to and from the mobile clinics
4. Patient advocate – assists patients to complete forms for patient assistance programs for medications.
5. Warehouse – keeps our supplies organized and the mobile clinics stocked.
6. Prayer partners – every patient at each visit meets one-on-one with a prayer partner; must have recommendation from your pastor.

We are believing for more committed volunteers and resources so we can reach more people with the love of Christ. What we hear the most from our volunteers is that they received so much more than they gave. If you would like more information – please email us at healinghands@healingplacechurch.org

Besides outreaches, Healing Hands also has monthly meetings with all of it’s volunteers for a time of encouragement, share needs and discuss future outreaches.
